The Mayia resort on Rhodes- A review

We spent a week here in July. Rhodes is located in the eastern parts of the Mediterranean, close to Turkey, and has an interesting history and Rhodes city is on the Unesco world heritage site. But we visited Rhodes during a heat wave, and literally did not leave the hotel. Luckily for us, we had chosen the right hotel, and spent a hot, but very relaxed week here. The hotel is in Kiotari, a seaside resort in the southeast.

The hotel is big and spacious, and never felt crowded. The pool area is very big, lots of space, lots of comfy sun beds and always sun beds available. There is also a beach, with more sunbeds. The beach is quite rocky, so we preferred the pools. It is an all-inclusive five star resort. Staying at the Mayia is really relaxing. You literally have no worries!

The rooms are very spacious and has a lovely view of the Mediterranean. The bathrooms could have been a bit bigger, and I missed a bath tub, but towels are fluffy and amenities are from the white company, so all is good. The air condition can not go lower than 20 degrees, I missed the possibility of setting a lower temperature.

The hotel opened in 2018, and you still have the feeling this is a new hotel. The hotel is gleamingly white, and the architecture feels very modern, but also very Greek. The overall result is sleek and elegant.

The cleanliness of the hotel was very good, both regarding rooms, common areas, spa, lobby, restaurants and outside. The staff is polite, and very accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. One in our company had a birthday, and she got at surprise birthday cake brought to our room. We had not told anybody, but they must have noticed her birthday from the passports. That’s the kind of attention this hotel pays to its guests.

The hotel has five restaurants and a traditional Greek café, a sandwicherie and a patisserie (with the best lemon merengue pie!). There are also several bars to choose from, and maybe the nicest things with the bars is sipping your drink looking out over the Mediterranean.

We ate in all the restaurants. The main restaurant, the Waterside, is the buffet restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. It’s a buffet restaurant, and the spread for all meals is quite impressive. Some of the dishes are delicious, others not so much. I believe the restaurant would be better if they had fewer dishes.

Our favourite restaurant was the Asian, the Wasabi. Located on the top floor, in nice weather you sit outside on the terrace. They have a very nice starter, a combination of several of the starters which we all liked. We also liked the Italian restaurant, the al Dente. The pizzas are really good! We had one dinner at the Greek restaurant, but were not impressed, and only dined there once.

The spa is very nice –peaceful and elegant, and the therapists are very skilled. The hotel offers a short free treatment, and this gives you a little “spa teaser”, it certainly got us hooked. Had a couple of lovely back and shoulder massages – a very relaxing holiday.

There is a well equipped gym, but personally I prefer exercising outdoors. The hotel has lessons of water aerobic and yoga, and yoga in the morning, when all is quiet and you look out to the sea, is absolutely peaceful.

I would have liked to see more of Rhodes, but if the heath is too much, this is absolutely the right hotel in which to spend a week! Would we go back? Yes, we would
